Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) today announced the opening of Thompson Rome, a 69-room hotel owned and operated by AG Group s.r.l. and Rossifin Group, marking the Thompson Hotels brand’s debut in Italy. Set within a reimagined iconic landmark on Via delle Botteghe Oscure, the hotel is steps from Piazza Venezia and within walking distance of the Roman Forum, Pantheon and Colosseum, pairing its historic setting with a contemporary approach to art, design and dining.
Thompson Rome draws on the architectural character of its 1940s home and the layered history of Via delle Botteghe Oscure, one of Rome’s most significant streets and a landmark in post-war Italian political history. Original elements, including a sweeping marble staircase, have been carefully restored, while a sculptural wall and inlaid floor by celebrated Italian artist Gio Pomodoro, rediscovered during the renovation after decades hidden from view—have been preserved and given new prominence within the hotel. Bespoke furnishings, refined detailing and layered natural materials bring a contemporary expression to the building's history.
